First off I want to thank everyone that commented on my last post. If you read it and did not comment I also thank you for your time and feel free to leave your thoughts and/or criticisms next time.
In my last post I talked briefly about how we need to press on as true right wingers and take back our ideology and our party. Everywhere I look I can not find a politician or candidate that supports the same things I do. In the race for the White House I get to chose from Clinton or Obama and John McCain. I am not represented there. Conservatism is not represented in that race. I stand for limited constitutional government, a strong United States military, stopping the invasion of our country by illegal immigrants, and reigning in the absolutely absurd amount of federal spending. I am pleased to say that I have finally found the person that truly represents me and it would be a great honor to have him serve the great state of South Carolina in the U.S. Senate: Mark McBride. While I have not met Mr. McBride personally (at least not yet) I have taken the time to throughly read over the issues section of markmcbride.us and I was not disappointed. If for some reason you have not read this section yet I encourage you to check it out. In my opinion it could very well be considered the definition of conservatism. I will not go through every single one but I will touch the key ones for me.
Illegal Immigration - This is why we are all here. We have stood up in unison to fight this issue despite the attempts of those in Washington to grant amnesty. I am in favor of limiting the amount of immigrants coming into the country until we have a handle on this ballooning problem. We cannot continue on this path if we want to continue on as a sovereign nation with American values and beliefs. The invasion is on and no one is paying attention. We need some one that will fight back.
Foreign Policy Change - We are the only superpower left in the world. That means we have a huge bullseye on our back. It is time for America to start worrying about America first. Don't get me wrong we have to maintain our commitment to the people of Iraq and I am in no way suggesting that we immediately cut ties and run away, however we must realize that we need to not engage in nation building. We cannot continue to be the protector of the world when we are being slowly invaded back home from the southern border. We are spending to much to maintain the protection of other countries, why is that? We have moved away from our true conservative roots in recent years. It is a liberal idea that we can constantly intervene in the dealings of other countries that have absolutely nothing to do with the United States. As I posted last time I am a recovering liberal and on my path to conservatism I stopped off for a brief moment in the world of Neo-Conservatism...which is not conservatism at all. It is the use of semi conservative methods to accomplish liberal goals. That is the overall riding theme of current U.S. foreign policy. We are not the police force of the world, we must focus on protection of the U.S. from within. However we are currently engaged in a conflict in Iraq and I am not interested in talking about who supported the Iraq War at first or what should have been done, I am interested in talking about how do we win! How do we address the issue at hand? After that is taken care of then we need to move to a more Jeffersonian hands off type of approach to foreign policy.
FairTax - This is the selling point for me. I am a huge supporter of the FairTax proposal. I encourage everyone to check out fairtax.org and/or read the FairTax book. I will not go through the entire thing but I will say imagine getting all of your money that you worked for. Don't tell me that it cannot be done because it can and if we elect Mark McBride to the Senate we will be one step closer to that dream becoming reality.
Overall I am very pleased with the prospect of a Senator McBride from the great state of South Carolina. I think he is exactly what this state needs. He is exactly what our ideology needs and he is what our party needs. Perhaps Mr. McBride could be a piece of the puzzle to retake the Republican Party back for conservatives. Sir, I stand behind you all the way.
