Senator Graham voted against the Cornyn Amendment (SA 1184) to S. 1385 to establish a permanent bar for gang members, terrorists, and other criminals.

The Cornyn Amendment would have permanently barred from admission into the United States, and denied immigration benefits (including legal status under the amnesty in this bill) to:

1. Absconders. According to the Washington Times there are an estimated 80,000 absconders in the America. Absconders are illegal aliens convicted of such crimes as murder, rape, drug dealing and child molestation, served their time and have been ordered deported - yet are still on the streets

2. Aliens deemed inadmissible or deportable as security risks (an example would be terrorists)

3. Aliens who fail to register as sex offenders

4. Aliens convicted of certain firearms offenses

5. Aliens convicted of domestic violence, stalking, crimes against children, or violation of protection orders

6. Alien gang members

7. Aliens convicted of at least three DUIs

The Cornyn Amendment failed by a vote of 46 to 51. On June 6, 2007, 12:25PM

Voting with Senator Graham were Senators Hillary Clinton, Larry Craig, Dianne Feinstein, Ted Kennedy, John Kerry, John McCain, Barrack Obama, Harry Reid and others. The 51 senators who voted against this amendment are simply and unequivocally wrong. I cannot accept any United States elected official who would ever agree to allow these criminal undesirables access to citizenship. Voting against this amendment is un-American,
un-Patriotic and a threat to national and individual security.

This one vote is not negotiable. This one vote, regardless of any other good works, is the sole reason for Senator Graham to be replaced. This one vote cannot be explained or ignored. A man's voting record is THE measurement of effectiveness and justification for reelection.
