independance from oil in America

I would love to see America free from oil consumption. It is safer, it is healthier, it is better all around. What I would love to see is the government, science, and industry bite the bullet and come together NOW for a solution. What are we waiting for? We have known this was a problem for 10+ years. Now that it is election time it is such a hot topic. Something should have been done a long time ago, and now something has to be done. It should not be solely on the fact that gas is at an all time high, but that it is the right thing to do for our environment as well as shutting down a hostile force. How do we make the transition? Let's go ahead and say that the ability to get away from oil is there......How do we make the transition? How do you get new cars that are fuel effeciant/oil free into the hands of the masses? We all need to bite the bullet, pull together as Americans and make this happen. Let's stop talking and take action! I will vote for someone who will do this, not just use it to get elected. Are we a superpower or what? We lead the world in creativity. If we applied ourselves to this task and pulled together on this issue instead of arguring about who is right and what someone's agenda may have been, we could get this done in short order. I am confident of that. Creativity is something freedom has given to us that other countries are not as blessed with. Where we are suffering now is with our bickering. We are at odds and this is one topic we all need to be in unity about and proactive in doing something now.
