there is absolutely no reason for oil prices to be this high in this country.
There are vast oil fields located in Alaska and the Gulf of Mexico that are there for the taking. All we need is the guts to go get it. But, again we cut off our nose to spite our face by ruling that we can not drill for oil because of some unknown environmental problem, or the environmental problem of the week....which ever suits them better.
The fact is that as long as India and China increase their demand for Saudi and Middle Eastern oil, that price will continue to go up. Thats just basic economics 101.
We could influence the price of gas at the pump for the average American ( By average, I mean those of us who go to school or work everyday, and then go on vacation for a week in the summer) by drilling in ANWAR and by building some new oil rigs in the Gulf of Mexico, right beside the Chinese and Cuban ones that are already there.
I believe that by simply announcing our intention to drill and our intention to build new oil rigs and refineries, we would see an immediate drop in price at the pump.
But, as easy as it is to drill for new oil reserves in our own country, it won't be easy. In fact, some radical environmentalist would have me put into a camp simply for saying that it should be done. It is going to take some strong, courageous, and resolute leadership to get that done. We are going to need a leader who is unafraid of what the left wing environmentalist are going to say about them. Because they will run any politician who voices that idea through the mud....twice. We are going to need a leader, who has values...American values...South Carolina values. Not the least of which is a burning desire for independence...both political as well as energy. Anyone know someone like that??
